Error when connect to sql server 2005 using remote desktop

Hi all,
I am trying to connect to SQL Server 2005 from my computer using Remote
Desktop but keep getting this error:
"An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When
connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that
under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 28 - Server doesn't support
requested protocol) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)"
I checked the server settings, and it is allow remote connections. Anything
that I missed here?
Thank a lot in advance for any help.

Is the server running?
Do you specify the correct instance name?
Also, it could help if you could clarify the machines involved here. You
said that you are using Remote Desktop. That is, you do not run Mgmt
Studio or whatever you are trying to connect with from your own computer?
Is SQL Server running on the machine you connect to with Remote Desktop,
or is it on a third machine?
