error when importing text file - saving in notepad first works

I'm trying to import a tab separated text file into sql server 2005 using the import guide. But when running the job I get the error message

Error 0xc02020c5: Data Flow Task: Data conversion failed while converting column "Column 19" (67) to column "Column 19" (404). The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

The column 19 which reported a problem contains this information:
?searchroot=/_gen_/txt/&template=std.htm&use=prospect&intref=1_26067

However what is mysterious is that if I open the file in notepad or Excel and resave it again the job runs perfectly. This is not a way we could make it work later on since it's an automatic job that will run each night on a new text file.

The text file is sent from Norway to Sweden - and I use ANSI latin 1 when importing.

The column has datatype DT_STR with a width of 500.

I use Locale Swedish and when I save in Notepad it is saved in ANSI,

I use Windows XP Swedish version.

Try DT_WSTR instead as its unicode.

There could be a control character in that field that gets thrown away when you save in Notepad.|||

Error saving package to msdb (IA64 - April CTP)

When attempting to save a copy of my .dtsx package (from BI Dev Studio), I get the following error. Any one have any ideas? - note: This is an IA64 machine running W2k3 Server (SP1). If I select * from msdb.dbo.sysdtspackages90 I get no rows.

Additional Info: I've been checking the public newsgroups and this error appears with SQL2000, too. Most proposed solutions relate to certificates being installed. I've checked the various places (xyz\certificates\personal) where the problem certificates might be and have found none, so uninstalling these certificates is not a solution.

Any other ideas? Any would be appreciated!

Basically, with earlier CTP releases you have two options, supply a self signed cert to the server or upgrade to the June CTP.

I'm trying to save a diagram but get this error:

The 'dt_adduserobject' procedure attempted to return a
status of NULL, wich is not allowed. A status of 0 will be

Hernanwithout the table DLL I'm afraid there's not much help for you.
Did you try to add a column with a null value and make it PK?

Whats the SQL Server version? The below workaround is mentioned in
BooksOnLine for this error:
ALTER TABLE dbo.dtproperties ADD uvalue NVARCHAR(255) NULL

Does that mean you dont have any database diagrams? If so, try dropping the
dtproperties table.This table is recreated automatically every time you try
to save a database diagram.You have to unmark the table as a system
object.Since this is undocumented, the usual warnings exist:
dbo.sp_msUnmarkschemaobject dtproperties
drop table dtproperties

Error Saving Binary data to sql mobile

I have been trying to place a binary byte array into the sql server mobile 2005 database and continually get an error "The Identifier cannot be an empty string." when attempting to save this sql to the database:

"INSERT INTO KHZ_Company_Permissions ( PermissionID, CompanyID, StatusID, PluginTypeName, PermissionLevel, ChangeStamp, RecordState ) VALUES (1, 1, 1, 'Plugins.Approval.ApprovalList', 2, System.Byte[], 0)"

the byte array ChangeStamp is a timestamp datatype in the Sql Server Database and is pulled into a custom business object as the .net datatype Byte()

in the debugger, the byte array looks like it should as a timestamp comprised of 8 bytes with the values: 0,0,0,0,0,0,63,181 . but when i attempt to execute the sql statement, i get the sqlceexception "The Identifier cannot be an empty string." if i change the byte to a string and save it as an nvarchar, the value is preserved and i can then pass it back to compare it to the timestamp when synching up to the Sql Server Database later, but i would prefer to maintain the type as a binary datatype, and avoid the string conversion...

When i am creating the sqlstring (which i then run using a sqlcommand/nonquery) i add the binary data to the sqlstring by referencing the .tostring character ... do you think this may be what is causing the error, and if so, is the only way to insert binary data to a sql ce db by using sqlcecommand parameters?

i have found no information to assist with this error, any ideas are much appreciated

Passing the Binary Parameters as SqlCEParameters fixed this|||Could you share the code you used to setup parameters and add the binary data?|||
