Error when using SQL Import / Export Wizard

I am attempting to import data from an access db using the wizard and I get the following error when the wizard attempts to save.

- Initializing Data Flow Task (Success)
- Initializing Connections (Success)
- Setting SQL Command (Success)
- Setting Source Connection (Success)
- Setting Destination Connection (Success)
- Validating (Success)
- Saving (Error)
Messages
* Error 0xc0208220: Data Flow Task: Unable to save to XML.
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

Does anyone have any ideas about how to correct this?

Without out more information I would have to say that the error is occurring because the path is non-existant, the account running the package does not have permissions to the path, or the file connection manager was set up to use an existing file and one is not there, or to create a file and one of that name already exists.sql

Error when using rskeymgmt to backup encryption key

When I run the rskeymgmt program to backup the encryption key, I get the
following error:
The Report Server Windows service is not responding to RPC requests. The
service may not be running.
I have checked, and the service is running. We are using SQL Server 2005
sp2. The command I am using is:
rskeymgmt -e -fc:\rskey\rsdbkey.txt -psomepassword
Any ideas why this is failing. I was able to run the program some time ago.

Sounds like you have a 'go' in the middle of a multi line comment... Query
Analyzer behaves poorly when this occurs... Use a single line comment -- to

Error when using 'LIKE'

I am running the following query using Query Analyzer against an MSDE version. The query seems like a textbook use of 'LIKE', so the error makes to sense to me. Thanks for any help.

SELECT _FAX

FROM _IRISH_BNB_DETAILS

WHERE _FAX LIKE "[A-Z]%"

Error:

Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Line 1

Invalid column name '[A-Z]%'.

Try executing:

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER OFF

Dave

|||

In SQL, use the single quote character to delimit strings, so:

LIKE '[A-Z]%'

instead of

LIKE "[A-Z]%"

Double quotes are used to allow for quoted identifiers, so it is thinking that "[A-Z]%" is a column name

|||

Thank you!

I was following an example in "SQL Server 2000 Administrator Companion" on page 309 that uses double quotes.

|||

Sorry, my answer is too short. Try this:

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER OFF

SELECT _FAX
FROM _IRISH_BNB_DETAILS
WHERE _FAX LIKE "[A-Z]%"

SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON

and then try this:

SELECT _FAX
FROM _IRISH_BNB_DETAILS
WHERE _FAX LIKE '[A-Z]%'

You are really better changing your literal, that is "[A-Z]%" into a single quote delimited literal for the sake of ANSI compliance; however, an alternative is to set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER on so that the original code can work as is.

Error when upsizing Access 2K Database

When I try to upsize an Access 2K database, I get the following two errors,
one after the other:
SQL Server does no exist or access denied.
The Upsizing Wizard only works with MS SQL Server (Versions 6.50 SP5 or
higher). Please log onto a SQL Server data source.
I doesn't matter whether I login as 'sa' or use a trusted connection, create
a new database or use an existing one, or use '(local)' or the name of my
computer as the server name. If trying to use an existing database, I am
using a File Data Source that appears to work just fine elswhere (test
connection returns success, and I can import/link tables in an Access
database). I have read the KB article that says to use a file DS, but that
hasn't helped. I have even tried a machine DS, but same errors.
I am the dbo of the existing database, and I and the sa account should have
database create priviliges. I can create databases and tables in SQL
Enterprise manager just fine.
I get these same two errors if I try to create a new adp file and selecting
New Database. I am using XPPro and Office XP Developer Edition.
Thanks. You might find this page helpful troubleshooting the upwiz:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/a...0894261033.aspx
FWIW, the upsizing wizard does not do a very good job of migrating
from Access/Jet to SQL Server even when it does work. It creates an
unholy mess of triggers, views and inefficient data type conversions.
You'd be better off recreating the schema in SQL Server to take
advantage of SQLS features like constraints and stored procedures, and
then migrate the data using DTS or even queries from linked tables.

Error when updating

I get the following error when I execute the statement below. 'Invalid
length parameter passed to the substring function'
Update Tbl_Txn_UT
Set Fxd_Units =
CASE
WHEN TxnUnitsBase is Null and (TxnUnits like '%,%' or TxnUnits like
'%M%' and TxnUnitsDur like '%M%')
THEN Cast(left(TxnUnitsDur,len(TxnUnitsDur)-1)as Float)/15
WHEN TxnUnitsDur is Null and (TxnUnits like '%,%' or TxnUnits like
'%M%')
THEN TxnUnitsBase
WHEN (TxnUnits like '%,%' or TxnUnits like '%M%')
THEN Cast(left(TxnUnitsDur,len(TxnUnitsDur)-1)as Float)/15 +
TxnUnitsBase
Else TxnUnits
END
Where TxnUnits is not Null
It took a while to get this code correct with help and now evidently one of
the answers from the math causes an error. Any help is appreciated.Hi
Posting DDL an example data would help to see what you are trying to achive
and help re-create the problem. The statement is assuming that TxnUnitsDur i
s
at least one character which could is probably causing the problem.

Error when trying to deploy report

Hi,
I'm running Reporting Services 2000 SP1. Everytime I try and deploy a report
to our reporting server I get the following error:
"A connection could not be made to the report server
http://sqlreportserver/ReportServer"
I can browse to the Report Manager and view reports. I am also able to debug
reports in VS.NET 2003. I've double checked the TargetFolder and
TargetServerURL in the project properties.
I am on a different domain than the report server. Could this be why I am
unable to deploy? If so, does anybody know how I can work around this.
Thanks
John a.k.a.HansHi again,
I'm still having problems with this. If anyone could give me a few pointers
that would be much appreciated.
Thanks

same problem.
1) In IE. Tools --> Internet Options --> Connections --> LAN Settings.
Uncheck the 'Use a proxy server for your LAN (These.....' box.
2) Restart VS.NET 2003
3) I can now deploy reports.
Still frustrating because my colleague does not have to uncheck this box in
order to deploy...so any pointers would be much appreciated.

Error when trying to create new SQL Server login via ado.Net

I get an error when I try to execute the following code using ADO.Net
in VB.Net:
conn.open
sqlString="CREATE LOGIN test WITH PASSWORD = '1qaz2wsx'"
command=new SqlCommand(sqlString)
command.connection = conn
command.ExecuteNonQuery()
The error occurs when executing the ExecuteNonQuery line and is:
"Line1: Incorrect syntax near 'LOGIN' "
The database connection is connected to the master database of SQL 2005
Express using the sa account. This line executes just fine in Sql
Server Studio Manger when connected as sa. Am I not allowed to create
database logins via ado.net?!?! I need to for my application.
Thx,

connected to the SQL Express instance since this message indicates you are
connected to a pre-SQL 2000 instance. You can insert code like the example
below to query the instance version. My SQL Express instance returns
"9.00.1399.06".
command=new SqlCommand("SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('ProductVersion')")
Dim version as String = command.ExecuteScalar().ToString()
MessageBox.Show(version)

No need to print the SQL statement here since it is in clear text in Marcus'
code snippet:

On a sort-of-related note, is there a way for me to iterate through all
the SQL Server Express instances on the network? Using SQL-DMO, the
code below gives me the names of the servers, but some of the SQL
Express servers are named "[server_name]\SQLEXPRESS", while others are
just "[server_name]" (even though they do not have anything other that
SQL Express on them). If they were all suffixed with "SQLEXPRESS" then
that would be easy, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

System.EventArgs) Handles Button2.Click
Dim oNames As SQLDMO.NameList
Dim oSQLApp As SQLDMO.Application
Dim oServer As SQLDMO.SQLServer2
oSQLApp = New SQLDMO.Application
oNames = oSQLApp.ListAvailableSQLServers
For i As Integer = 1 To oNames.Count
TextBox1.AppendText(oNames.Item(i) + Environment.NewLine)
Next
End sub
Thanks!
Marcus|||Check the following:
1) SQL Brower service is enabled and running
2) Port 1434 isn't blocked (e.g. Windows firewall)
3) The SQL Express instance is configured for remote connections
Hope this helps.

IIRC, before SQL Server 2000, network broadcast packets sent to facilitate
server enumeration. According to Perter's blog
(http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols.../24/473502.aspx), legacy
behavior can show default instances even with UDP 1434 blocked.
Hope this helps.

did not run so I realized this problem.

The MSDB database has some problem, maybe it is running in single user mode.
maybe you moved it from another BD check the MSDB for any thing out of the
normal.

Error when starting Report Manager

When trying to start report manager (http://localhost/reports) I get the following error. I have since given access to ASPNET and IUSR_<machinename> rights to the listed path & file, but still get same error. Any ideas? Thanks.

Parser Error Message: An error occurred loading a configuration file: Access to the path 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot_sps2003\web.config' is denied.

Try giving the report server web service account read permission on the folder in the error message.

It's working. Since we have Sharepoint and other things on there I had to specify the port and sql instance: http://someservername:8080/Reports$sql2005 this worked! Report manager comes up now.

Thanks!

|||

You'll need to do some more work to make things work reliably:

1) in the rsreportserver.config file, change URLRoot to include the URL above. This allows links in e-mail deliveries to be accurate.

2) check your report manager configuration file and see if you need to set the reportserverurl property rather than the reportservervirtualdirectory property - when using a custom port you usually need to use reportserverurl. Note that these elements are mutually exclusive.

Good to hear you're up and running.

Hi Shahab,

Is ACI\snasir hard-coded as the username in any of the connection managers?

error when running reports

Hi all
Has anyone seen the following error - cannot run any reports - start then
crashes
Reporting Services Error
----
a.. An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for
more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help
a.. Invalid object name 'ReportServerTempDB.dbo.ExecutionCache'.
----
Microsoft Reporting Services
PeterThere seems to be a corruption with your temp DB. First check to see if
there is a ReportServerTempDB database. If so then check for the
ExecutionCache table, if it exist make sure the owner is dbo. If the DB
does not exist you can run the CatalogTempDB.sql script to create it. Make
sure to first create the DB as ReportServerTempDB and then create a Role
called RSExecRole, then you can run the script. You will also need to make
sure all the users that are in the RSExecRole in the ReportServer Database
are in the ReportServerTempDB's RSExecRole.
I hope that helps.

It happens when I run a report from Report Manager (or from within
RM3.0) - it starts off ok (view report) and then come up with this error -
If I create a new report in Visual Studio and run preview from there
everything is fine !!! - if I then import this into ReportManager and try to
run it comes up with this error - along with all the other reports currently
in ReportManager
Everything was working fine until the other day and as far as I know I've
done nothing to the server (don't even touch it) although we did have a
power outage when I wasn't here and the UPS expired - don't even know how
the TempDb went missing ( ps I'm the only one who uses the system - it is
my dev network etc )
I thought the collating seq may have been wrong so I checked with a VPC that
works and changed it to the same as the Report Server
Latin1_General_CI_Ai_KS_WS but made no difference
This box is SBS 2003 with SQL 2000 plus MS CRM 3.0 plus SSRS 2000 plus SP2
plus Visual Studio 2003

I'm going to delete the tempDB again and recreate it and make sure it has
exactly the same collating sequence and see what happens and let you know -
Peter Yang (MSFT)suggested checking that on the private newsgroup ( i
wasn't subscribed there before but I am now
ReportServer is Latin1_General CI_AS_KS_WS and the TempDB
Latin1_General_CI_AI_KS_WS -
I obviously made a mistake when I recreatedthe TempDB
Thank yuo for you help and assistance
