Error when setting MSDTC to autostart
I'm getting an error message when I try to set autostart MSDTC in Enterprise manager. This problem just suddenly appered.
Error message:
Error 22002: RegCreateKeyEx() returned error5, 'Access is denied'
I hope somebody can tell me what this is :)Ensure the account used to start SQL Server services and MSDTC have necessary privileges to access the registry key and server.
Also, if you're using the DOMAIN account that you are trying to run the SQL services under must also have privlages to that machine. You must add that account to the local machine, such as the admin group.
If possible to restart the services and BTW what is the level of SQL service pack?sql

I'm running on a clean install of Windows XP SP2, using SQL Server Express 2005 SP1, and Visual Studio 2005 Standard. I can click Continue and everything seems to work ok. However the same error message pops up intermittently when I'm working. I have tried the usual uninstall SSMSE and reinstall. I get the same results. I didn't have this error when using SSMSE CTP.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Flynn
Oddly enough, when I opened SSMSE this morning, it ran the initial setup and now everything works fine. I can only think it's because I logged off and back on after installing instead of performing a complete reboot cycle.
Anyway, I'm not getting any errors now when opening the program, or when working in it.

sqlError When Open Analysis Services From Management Studio
Dear All,
When I want to open Analysis
Services from Management Studio, an
error message appear:
Exception of type
'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.
(Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum)
Can anybody tell me what happen and how to solve that ?Thanks in advance.
What version of Analysis Services you are running?
Try installing SP1. If that wouldnt help, try installing CTP of SP2.
Edward.

Thanks for your reply. I have installed SP1 + Hotfix so the version of SSAS is 2153. Is it recommended to installed SP2 on Production server yet ? Thanks.|||
I wouldnt recommend installing CTP of SP2 without trying it first on the production machine.
But the problem looks like to be related to the SQL Management studio. Try installing CTP of SP2 on a client machine and then connecting to the server. See if the same error is happening.
Edward.

FYI, I have 4 machine in my environment, one server (A) and the other three is client (B,C,D). I installed SP1 + hotfix on machine A, B, and C. I installed CTP of SP2 on D. A cannot open Analysis Services from management studio on its local, but can open Analysis Services on B and C. B and C can open Analysis Services on their local but cannot open the Analysis Services on A. D can open Analysis Services on its local and other machines (A, B, C). Is there any other solution besides installing CTP of SP2 on client ? Thanks.|||
In SP2 SQL Management studio is more efficient in opening big databases. Looks like that is the way to go.
Edward.

Error when limiting memory usage with OSQL.EXE
Business Server, I get an error message I don't know what to do with.
I searched for an osql internal command reference, but all the references I
found are about specific problems.
Here is my input and the result:
osql -E -S sbs01\sbsmonitoring
1> sp_configure 'show advanced options',1
2> reconfigure with override
3> go
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the
RECONFIGURE statement to install.
I intended to follow that with the following commands, but didn't get that
far:
sp_configure 'max server memory', 70
reconfigure with override
go
Reply in group, but if emailing add another
zero, and remove the last word.
I think you need to remove the first go or just run

What error message are you getting?
(If you're referring to this:
> Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the
> RECONFIGURE statement to install.
please note that is not an error. It is the normal response to any
sp_configure command to set a value. SQL Server doesn't check to see if the
next statement is the RECONFIGURE before generating this message.)
If that was the response, you were ready to go on, but it's probably a good
thing you didn't. Setting memory to only 70MB is not a good idea. Although
technically SQL Server might be able to run with this little, you probably
won't be able to get any work done at all.

Thanks all.
I should have mentioned that what I expected was "DBCC execution completed"
on the line following go. I thought that, without it, the command must have
failed.
I will use 100MB as Claus suggested. 70MB has worked with other SBS's and I
know I'm not the only SBS admin who has used that value, but I'll do as you
say.

Thanks all.
I should have mentioned that what I expected was "DBCC execution completed"
on the line following go. I thought that, without it, the command must have
failed.
I will use 100MB as Claus suggested. 70MB has worked with other SBS's and I
know I'm not the only SBS admin who has used that value, but I'll do as you
say.

Error when limiting memory usage with OSQL.EXE
Business Server, I get an error message I don't know what to do with.
I searched for an osql internal command reference, but all the references I
found are about specific problems.
Here is my input and the result:
osql -E -S sbs01\sbsmonitoring
1> sp_configure 'show advanced options',1
2> reconfigure with override
3> go
Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 1 to 1. Run the
RECONFIGURE statement to install.
I intended to follow that with the following commands, but didn't get that
far:
sp_configure 'max server memory', 70
reconfigure with override
go

Now run the second set and you should be fine.
I don't see an error. I would also recommend using 100 instead of 70.

Error when installing Reporting Services in Virtual PC 2004
Virtual PC 2004 it displays a message "Error!". I have already installed
VS.NET 2003 and SQL Server 2000 with SP3. Please help.Hi Randy:
I've installed RS on a couple VPCs, so I don't think it would be a
general problem with VPC. I'm wondering what the problem could be. Do
you have 2003 configured as an application server (IIS, ASP.NET
enabled) before the install?

I have configured Windows Server 2003 as an application server before
installing VS NET 2003 and SQL Reporting Services.

error when importing text file - saving in notepad first works
I'm trying to import a tab separated text file into sql server 2005 using the import guide. But when running the job I get the error message
Error 0xc02020c5: Data Flow Task: Data conversion failed while converting column "Column 19" (67) to column "Column 19" (404). The conversion returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
The column 19 which reported a problem contains this information:
?searchroot=/_gen_/txt/&template=std.htm&use=prospect&intref=1_26067
However what is mysterious is that if I open the file in notepad or Excel and resave it again the job runs perfectly. This is not a way we could make it work later on since it's an automatic job that will run each night on a new text file.
The text file is sent from Norway to Sweden - and I use ANSI latin 1 when importing.
The column has datatype DT_STR with a width of 500.
I use Locale Swedish and when I save in Notepad it is saved in ANSI,
I use Windows XP Swedish version.
Try DT_WSTR instead as its unicode. There could be a control character in that field that gets thrown away when you save in Notepad.|||
Had the same error importing a text file. Error was resolved by changing the dataype as you advised. Thanks!
