Error when using SP in data flow

I want to execute a stored procedure in an OLE DB source in a Data Flow Task.

The stored procedure has a parameter.

When I put in an SQL command as :

EXEC sp_readcustomers 1

(thus passing 1 as the parameter value I can use the Preview button and I get a list of columns being returned.

The data flow task should run inside a ForEach Loop where I assign the value of an ADO resultset to a variable and it is this variable I want to pass to the SP :

EXEC sp_readcustomers ?

In the Parameter mapping I then name the parameter @.par_company_id (which is the exact same name as in the SP) and map it to the variable var_company_id.

@.par_company_id has been declared as int, var_company_id as Int16

When I now try to Parse or Preview the query from the OLE DB Source Edit window I get the following errors :

Parse : Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

Preview : No value given for one or more required parameters (Microsoft SQL Native Client)

I have already installed SQL 2005 SP2 and VS2005 SP1.

I have tried everything I know, please help ?!?!

Have you tried putting the SQL Statment in a variable? You can parametrized queries using expressions in variables; then the source component will get the sql statemnt from the variable. There are a lot of example on this forum.|||

I created a variable, set EvaluateAsExpression to True and entered the select statement as an expression.

Problem is that I can't select the variable, it is in the correct scope but it doesn't show up in the drop-down list of the OLE DB Source.

When you look at the documentation (Books online, etc. ...) I'm using the correct method to pass parameters to a stored procedure, is this a bug in VS/SQL ?

To use the variable in an OLE DB Source, select the data access mode of "SQL command from variable." Then your variable will show up in the drop down.

I am trying to use a stored procedure in the OLE DB source, I am using the SQL Command for the Data Access mode. It returns values when using the preview but when I test the package I receive the error, "A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider."how is the ole db source configured?|||For the the connection manager I just have a basic connection to the Sql server and then I am using the SQL command for the data access mode. if i'm not mistaken, the sql native client provider (SQLNCLI.1) only works with sql server 2005.

if you are using a different version of sql server, then try using the microsoft ole db provider for sql server (SQLOLEDB.1)

error when using "Referenced" dimension usage against an oracle data source

I've built a cube using a data source and DSV that point to an Oracle 10g database. I am able to process this cube so long as the dimensions are all related to the main fact table using regular dimension usage. The problem I'm having arises when the dimension has to have "referenced" usage through an intermediate dimension. In this case, when the cube processes, the SQL that gets generated and run looks akin to the following:

The error that is returned when I run the query from SQL Server Management Studio is as follows:

Msg 7357, Level 16, State 2, Line 1

Cannot process the object ""IAL"."SALES_PART"". The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "(null)" indicates that either the object has no columns or the current user does not have permissions on that object.

Note that it seems to attempt to query the table behind the referenced dimension (SALES_PART) by simply opening the table, rather than selecting something specific from it. Unfortunately this doesn't work when processing the cube, nor does it work when I paste the same query into SQL Server Management Studio. However if I modify it a little to use

N'select * from "IAL"."SALES_PART"'

instead of just

N'"IAL"."SALES_PART"'

then it runs no problem. Is there any way to control the SQL that Analysis services produces to process the cube, or is there some other way to resolve this problem so I can include dimensions with "referenced" usage? (Note that I've tried with both the Microsoft and the Oracle OLEDB providers, in both cases the behaviour & error were the same)

Miles, do you have multiple data sources involved here?

What appears to be happening is that the server detects a remote data source for the intermediate dimension and has to use remote queries to join the results together.

Some choices would be:

- Avoid the need for the remote query if possible (this would improve performance). If all your data is really coming from the same data source, then maybe something has just been improperly configured and is incorrectly causing a remote query.

- Create a linked server between the SQL Server and the Oracle server and then point to the SQL Server as the source of the tables in the DSV. This would mean credentials from the SQL Server to the Oracle server would be saved as part of the linked server.

- Change the referenced dimension to be unmaterialized (there is a check box in the dimension usage dialog for referenced dimensions). This would mean that query performance might be impacted because the join between the two dimensions would have to be done at query time instead of during processing.

- Perhaps you can change the table in the DSV to look like SELECT * FROM "IAL"."SALES_PART"

You're absolutely right that there were 2 data sources involved. The eventual solution was to make the primary data source for my DSV the oracle one, and then it all started behaving itself properly. As you rightly pointed out, it was doing an unnecessary remote query, tunnelling the requests to Oracle through SQL server leading to all kinds of problems. When the queries go directly to oracle, it all works fine. Thanks for the reply :)

Error when trying to deploy a report using Oracle data source

We use SQL Server Reporting Services, My SQL box is on Win2k3. The developer
is able to run the report on his Windows XP box but when he deploys the
reports to the SQL Server where Reporting Services is running, he gets the
following error:
"An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get
Online Help
Cannot create a connection to data source 'WMS'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Get Online Help
System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or
greater
He develped this report on his XP box using Visual Studio .NET and is trying
to deploy it to our SQL server production box where Reporting Services is
installed. I have installed Oracle 9.2 client on the SQL Server box and can
make successful connections to our Oracle Database (where the report is
pulling data from). What else am I missing?

work. The only
that we haven't tried is rebooting the IIS services as the documentation
noted. I've also installed the ODP .Net
driver on the FFSQL box and he still gets the error. We will try a reboot
later today and see if that clears up the error.

your versions of odbcbcp.dll or related components on the
publisher/distributor/subscriber are not consistent. Try to apply the latest

Error when changing the length on DataReader Source

Hi,
I am trying to import data from Oracle RDB into SQL Server 2005 using SSIS. Created a ODBC data source to connect to Oracle and used DataReader Source component and ADO.net to connect to the ODBC data source.

Under the Component properties tab, the SQL Command looks something like this.

Select ID, ADDRESS, REVISED from ADDRESS

The data type for the source columns are Integer, Varchar(30) and DATE VMS.

Now when I look at the Input and Output properties window,

The External columns has the following data types.

ID - four-byte signed integer [DT_I4]
ADDRESS - Unicode string [DT_WSTR], length = 0
REVISED - database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]

The Output columns has the following data types

ID - four-byte signed integer [DT_I4]
ADDRESS - Unicode string [DT_WSTR], length = 0
REVISED - database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP]

When I tried to change the length of the ADDRESS on the output column, I get the following error.

It sounds like the provider you are using is reporting the length of the string incorrectly as 0. I've seen that before with a provider, but I don't recall what one... Is there a different provider you can try?

Otherwise, you might try changing the select statement to cast the value explicitly to a string of length 30 and see if the DataReaderSrc correctly creates the column then.

Unfortunately I can't use any other providers other than ADO.net as I have to use Oracle RDB ODBC to connect to RDB database.

Strangely, now the column is showing as text instead of Unicode string and I was able to use the data conversion transformation to convert back to Unicode String. Not sure what changed on the server. The only thing that I think of is we updated SQL Server with some updated from MS website.

We had the exact same problem trying to pull data from Oracle Rdb. I went round & round but eventually found the solution.

Basically we had to install SQL*Net for Rdb (or OCI Services for Rdb) on our VMS server to make our Rdb database look like an Oracle database. Then we had to install Oracle client software on our client machine. I've used both Oracle 9.2 client and ODAC 10.2. You then set up your client connection using the Oracle Net Manager.

After you've got client & server configured, set up an SSIS connection manager using .Net Providers for OleDb -> Oracle Provider for OLE DB.

It's kind of a hassle to set up but it seems to work just fine.

error when an OLEDB source points to an OLEDB destination.

Hi all,

I got an error when i do an OLE db Source pointing to an sql 2000 database and executing a sql query inside the OLE Source. The ole source will point to an OLE DB destination which is an sql 2005 database.

But i got the below error:

Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Destination [245]]: the column firstname cannot be processed because more than one code page (936 and 1252) are specified for it.

Error at Data Flow Task [DTS.Pipeline]: "component "OLE DB destination" (245)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN".

my input columns firstname and lastname have 936 as codepages

but the destination columns lastname and firstname are set to 1252 codepages....and SSIS complains different codepages are used.

How do i change the defualt codepages to 936 for these two columns - firstname and lastname?

You may want to try 1) set DefaultCodePage property at OLEDBDest to 936. 2) set AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property at OLEDBDest to true.

That should fix the design time issue you got. However, you also need to make sure you set the destination column types properly at your dest table so as to receive good result.

I notice even if i set as 936 for the codepage...the default still doesnt change...so i add a data conversion transform which converts the column to 936 and add it to the destination column at 936 for codepage....

Error updating a data source

I have a strange problem and not sure where to go.
If I go into Report Manager and create a datasource, RS will create the
datasource and it will work properly. However if I go into that datasource

It does not matter if I update the data source programatically either, the
result is the same. I see nothing on this server that is different than any
other servers that I have setup and worked with. I am a admin on the box and
RS is running locally. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
Any ideas? It seems like some type of rights issue, but as admin, I am a
content manager and that is applied at the home page level, so should trickle
down to all objects and folders. It is a 2000 box with SP4, RS with SP1.
ThanksI'm not 100% sure about your problem in particular, but I have found
that editing datasources after they have been created in a bad thing,
unless you change the XML file by hand.

Error trying to backup a database

New to SQL Server, have never backed up a database before, in any DB system.
I am following a set of instructions that spell out how to copy a source db
and then copy it to a target db. Steps:
1) log onto server
2) start SQLServer Enterprise Manager
3) select source db and then Tools->Backup Database
Here's where my questions lie - The correct db shows, I have Back-up
Database-Complete selected, and Backup to disk. There is one destination
identified from an earlier backup. I tried creating a new destination, but
when I click OK, I get the error "The volume on device {my new destination
name} is not part of a multiple family media set. BACKUP WITH FORMAT can be
used to form a new media set"
I don't see an option for BACKUP WITH FORMAT.
I thought of trying to use the existing destination, but I'm not sure
whether to append or overwrite it. I am trying to get a full copy to put
into a test db.

Best recommendation is to Overwrite the media after taking a copy of exiting
file. If you append the file it will be tough while restoring.

Error tmp file is too large

I am getting the follwoing error when running my package.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "File c:\docume~1\sortiz\locals~1\temp\00003589001o.tmp is too large.".

I use a select statement to join to large foxpro tables. The data contains over a million records.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm getting errors in the W2000 SystemLog containing a error with source
KDC. The description of the alert is:
There are multiple accounts with name MSSQLSvc/TEST-SERVER.didoc.local:1433
of type 10
And guess what? This user doesn't even exist.
The questions are:
what is KDC? and what does this alert mean?

account for the Servername server. This causes both service accounts to
have the same
SPN registered.
If the accounts are known then use ADSI (Active Directory Serivces) edit
and remove

7. Click View and select Tree.
8. Set the Base DN as DC=Home, DC=com
9. Click Browse and select Search.
10. Set the Base DN as DC=Home, DC=com.
11. Set the filter as the following:
(serviceprincipalname=HOST/BOT-PC0295.home.com )
12. Set Scope to Subtree.
13. Click Run.
In either case, this indicates that you have a duplicate machine name
registered
within the Active Directory on your domain.
